First and foremost the people are friendly in Egypt. 🇪🇬 A conservative mostly Muslim. country with mostly the men as in the forefront of society with the women in the background, modestly navigating the social contract they follow. Women do drive and appear to follow various levels of modesty and employment. “Canada Dry, Never Die!” Is exclaimed to us every time everyone hears we are Canadian. I assume it was some marketing campaign in the past or just the locals attempt to connect with any of the foreigners who come here and I suspect they have a few canned slogans in every major language to appeal to the visitors. I was initially approached in Russian once as they thought my Eastern European looks may have been Russian. One of the places that Russian nationals can still travel and be accepted. Cairo seems to be a city with little concern for what is happening anywhere else in the world. Everyone seems to be hustling and connected to one large family working to part you from your money while selling you whatever they have to offer. You almost feel bad not buying as it is visibly poor with many children as young as 5 selling trinkets or riding the streets on donkeys or horses off on their next mission to provide for their family. I think to myself at least they aren’t forced to work on making pyramids, but when you suggested that to the guide, Jasmine said that the pyramids generally took so long to build as it was the farmers who came from their land during the flooding season to work on the pyramids and would return back to the land to work it so the myth of slaves building the pyramids may be just…
